Library Love – Beyond the Books

I know I’ve mentioned how much I love our library system before – several times – but wow, they have taken the cake on programs for the next three months. I’m so excited!

I dropped by the Grandview branch today to return a few books, and pick up the ones on hold. It is a rare week that goes by that I don’t have something checked out or waiting for me. On the way out I saw the latest Beyond the Books (the quarterly list of classes that Mid-Continent Public Library hosts) and I snatched it up.

I cannot tell you how much I look forward to getting it! It makes looking up interesting classes a snap since it is divided into different sections – Adult Programs, Family Programs, Teen Programs, and more.

I go through it like I did the Scholastic News in primary school, eagerly circling my wish lists of classes (like I would the books I hoped to get as a child), and then I sit down at my computer and begin to figure out what I can squeeze in where. It’s tough, there are so many good classes to take!

I found and scheduled thirty-six classes over the next four months!

There are cooking classes…writing and editing classes…historical classes…and tons of kid-oriented classes/events for the holidays and more.

Seriously…run (don’t walk) to your nearest Mid-Continent Public Library and pick up the newest Beyond the Books, or check out their Events Calendar online. You will be glad you did!

The only thing that made me sad is that I didn’t see anything expressly for homeschoolers. I had read a while back that they were considering canceling homeschool programs. I didn’t hear any more afterwards. Did they cancel them? Inquiring minds want to know!

No matter what – many of the programs offered can certainly help supplement your homeschool learning. I don’t know what I would do without MCPL!
